Hippie Dabble Digest 4: Walking onions, where to buy your seeds & bulbs, and redesigned website with new features

The Hippie Dabble Digest started September 7, 2021 on Substack.  We have since transitioned over to the blog and a newsletter that encompasses more than just the digest.  As part of this transition,  Hippie Dabble is bringing over all the old digests for you to enjoy.  This one is week 4 from September 28, 2021. The links from the Hippie Dabble Digests get put into the Directory and can be found here: https://hippiedabble.com/directory/.

Welcome to week 4 of the Hippie Dabble Digest! Thanks for joining me! As a reminder, make sure you check your spam/junk email folder just in case your newsletter has been landing there. I spent most of the week working on the website (see below), but I did manage to gather up a few interesting and useful links.

Egyptian Walking Onions

I’ve ordered lots of bulbs for fall planting, and this week my Egyptian walking onions should arrive.  So what is an Egyptian walking onion?  Well, I’ve picked out two great sites with a ton of information on what they are, how to plant them, and how to eat them.  You can even order some on the first site.

Where to order plants, seeds, & bulbs

So that brings up the next topic – where do you go to order plants, seeds, and bulbs?  If you have a local nursery, of course you can get a lot there. Sometimes though, they don’t have what you want, are more expensive, or like me, you prefer to shop from home. I mentioned above that you can get Egyptian walking onions here: https://www.egyptianwalkingonion.com/.  I ordered my Egyptian walking onions, along with a few other things, from Burpee: https://www.burpee.com/.  Aside from what I ordered from Burpee, I ordered most of my bulbs and other plants for fall planting (and some seeds for spring already) from Gurneys:  https://www.gurneys.com/.  And here are a couple other sites where you can order plants, seeds, and bulbs:  https://www.jungseed.com/https://www.brecks.com/.  I’m sure there are many more.  Where do you get yours from?

On the Website

As I mentioned above, week 4 is a bit short on content because I’ve spent most of the week redoing the website.  In addition to the blog, it now includes a directory which will come in handy after a few more weeks of newsletters when you don’t feel like searching back through them for that one specific site.  I have also added a shop.  It’s currently empty but products will be added soon and all subscribers to the Hippie Dabble Digest will get exclusive discounts each week.  Take a look at the redesigned site here:  https://hippiedabble.com/.
