Slow ….

It’s amazing how much better I can function when I stop trying to stay up all night to finish an assignment, get enough sleep, and then set aside a good chunk of time to work.  Getting a master’s degree while working full-time and trying to keep up with family, friends, and household responsibilities is incredibly hard.  I had these same constraints working on my bachelor’s degree but that was ten years ago.  The harsh reality is that age really does make a difference.  There’s a reason most people go to school and have kids in their 20’s versus their 40’s or 50’s.

I’m exhausted.  So I sat down and contemplated why.  Of course I’m older, and that has something to do with it, but there’s more.  I realized that I’m trying to rush through life, trying to get to that next best thing instead of taking it slow and letting everything run its course regardless of how much time it takes.  After all, life is about the living not the end result.  Even my advisor said, “We want you to enjoy your classes, not be overly stressed by them.”  I’ll get there when I get there.  “Scheduling those breaks is a great idea,” he said when I told him I would like to change my classes to do three on and one off, repeating.  Sure, it’ll take me longer, but what’s the rush?

I have three weeks left of the current class and then a break.  During my break I plan on working on writing, reading, the Hippie Dabble site, and of course getting caught up with family, friends, and household responsibilities.  Sometimes it’s nice to just slow down and get caught up.
